Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

To my Unknown Friend: Greeting and health.

It has been a while since I’ve been able to write any new letters. This entire summer has been crazy busy as I work to develop and launch a brand new course for my Introduction to Psychology class. I’ve retitled it, An Integral Tour of Introductory Psychology. It’s not much of a change, but it is a change in the pedagogical approach I’m taking with this introductory course.

See, I’ve split the information into five units. The first is merely the introductory material—history and approach to research. The next four units are realigned from the textbook into four categories: objective, subjective, intersubjective, and inter objective. Granted, there is some crossover in the text material between those categories. I’ve made some personal preferences as to where some items fall, ex., Life Span Development has been placed in the Objective category despite there being a great deal of consciousness material that would fall into the Subjective category. But I have placed that material at the end of the first unit as a bridge into the second unit.

The final, fifth Unit is a self-reflective assignment. I want them to take everything they have learned over the semester and apply it to themselves. They are, essentially, grading themselves in the end, but that’s what makes it fun for me. To see what they will decide about themselves after 15 weeks of information.

I really have put a lot of thought into this.

But rewriting a whole course is a lot of work. Frankly, I’m still not completely done with it. I have lectures that I’d like to film for it, but that will have to wait. I’ve done the best I can for my Fall students at the moment and it will have to do.

This semester also starts my foray into my second Masters program: Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My hope is to be able to work and do a full time schedule at the same time so that I can complete this is three years or less. It’s doable, but it will mean a lot of work as well.

Then I can be ready to take on the world with both my dreams accomplished. I will officially be a professor and a licensed counselor/therapist.

I don’t think it’s ever too late to reach for dreams, to accomplish them, to make them real. So I’ll be close to 55 before I really am getting into the real groove of things. So what? That gives me a good thirty years of work before I’m even close to dying off—excepting something sudden and unforeseen.

It takes dedication to a goal. It takes sacrifice. And it takes the support of family and close friends (and sometimes sacrifice from them too!). But nothing, and I do mean nothing, can stand in the way of reaching the goals you set for yourself.

Tally Ho! It’s going to be a wild ride for the next three years! I hope you’ll stick around for the ride.

Love is the law, love under will.
