The Lectionary

The Lectionary of the Year Whereby We Offer The Ranks of the Year and the Readings Thereof

The Lectionary is not a full Daily Office. It is the cycle of Sundays, Solemnities [1], Feasts [2], Memorials [3], Greater Commemorations [4], and Lesser Commemorations [5]—and the Propers and Readings that go with them—that make up the larger arc of the liturgical year. Read more about the Ranks of the Liturgical Year here. If one lacks the time to spend on the thrice daily celebration of the Daily Office, the basic lectionary cycle of propers and/or readings is a perfect way to get started on the road to participating in the sanctoral work underlying the readings. The propers are meant to be spoken aloud. The Lectionary, much like the Daily Office, is an auditory experience and ritual of its own.

The Liturgical Year starts on or about the 16th of July. It will be four Sunday before the 12th of August. That is called: First Sunday

The readings for each day can be found with the Daily Office.

What follows is an outline of the Lectionary. Individual readings can be found in their respective sections from the menu.
